Tonight: 37.6km

Good ride tonight. Very little traffic – I guess because it’s the last night of the Tet vacation. Should be back to normal tomorrow, I think. Felt good to get out and ride. Didn’t do much of anything exercise-related in Bali. Did work out in the hotel gym one day – rowing machine and elliptical machine. That’s it.

I think I’m going to join a gym here again. Just month-to-month because our school is opening its new gym in April or thereabouts. But I want to have a gym available now. Like today I felt like working out, but it was so freaking hot outside that I didn’t want to go ride my bike or run or anything. I really wanted to go work out in an air-conditioned gym. So I’ll remedy that shortly. Hopefully our school’s gym will be nice and I can work out there. Also, our lease is up at the end of May and we’re probably going to move into a different apartment complex near here that also has a gym.

It’s really nice to be back in Vietnam. I think Thao and I were both feeling a little “resorted out” after seven nights. The hotels we stayed in were really nice – much nicer than we could afford if we weren’t able to stay there for free. But even with the free room, everything else was so damned expensive. I really hate hotels’ business model. I don’t mind paying a little more for convenience, but their pricing is just absurd. Feels especially so after living somewhere as cheap as Vietnam. I think for our next trip we will forego Thao’s deal and just stay in a cheaper hotel that we pay for but where everything else associated with it is not so expensive.

I also think that our next trip will be to somewhere cool. It was really hot in Bali, and since it’s always also really hot in Vietnam, that didn’t feel very vacationy. We won’t be taking any big trips for a while now anyway as we dig ourselves back out of debt from our wedding, honeymoon, etc., but when we do I’d like to try to go somewhere with a little cooler weather.

Back to work tomorrow. I’ve got a lot to do this week, but I’m actually looking forward to getting back into a little bit of a routine.
