I just had my meeting to find out whether my contract to teach would be renewed. All of the comments were positive and they’ve offered me (and I’ve accepted) a two-year contract.
That obviously does not bind me to work here for two more years - I can resign at any time on 30-days notice - but it does bind the university to employ me for two years unless I do something stupid and they fire me for cause. (So realistically I’ll probably only be working here for a few more weeks! Hah!)
It’s nice to know that, if I want to, I can stay in Vietnam for at least two more years making enough to live on comfortably, etc. For the first time in a long time, I’m doing something that I really enjoy doing - and instead of spending every free moment pondering how to escape my current situation and stressing about what to do next, I can just relax, enjoy what I’m doing, try to be a better teacher, etc.
Also, whatever I decide to do in the future, it hopefully won’t hurt to have a year or two of university-level teaching on my resume. Maybe it will open up some additional doors at some point. We’ll see.
awesome, and good luck!
That is awesome news, Henry. I love how you made a change in your life, moved on, and finally have found a space that you are at peace with.
Cheers!
awesome man.. congrats!
Happy to hear it…gives me more time to plan a trip while you’re actually there. Congratulations — I’m positive it’ll open doors. “International experience” is a critical component for advancement here, and I’d think in most multi-national companies.
