I’ve gotten a few requests to post some more music, so I will try to do so from time to time when the mood strikes. Here are a few songs I’ve been listening to lately – you should be able to click on the song titles below to download “samples,” but I think the links all expire in 60 days or something so get them while they’re hawt:
Maxwell

His debut album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite, came out in 1996 – right around the time I was graduating from law school – and let’s just say that it quickly became my default “late night soundtrack.” Embrya came out in 1998, and also quickly became part of the late night CD rotation. (Remember CDs? Anyone? Anyone?) In any event, here you go:

Album: Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite
Song: Ascenscion (Don’t Ever Wonder)
“. . . and if you don’t know then I’ll say it, so don’t ever wonder . . .”

Album: Embrya
Song: Each Hour Each Second Each Minute Each Day: Of My Life
” . . . it’s like I’m almost close to digging me . . .”
3rd Bass/MC Serch
And 3rd Bass takes me all the way back to 1989, the year I graduated from high school. The Prime Minister, Sinister Pete Nice, MC Serch, DJ Subroc. (Anyone remember the old videogame Subroc? Anyone? Anyone?) I don’t know what to say other than: feel the dopeness:
3rd Bass
Album: The Cactus Cee/D
Song: Steppin’ to the A.M.
” . . . schoolin’ the swine on the strength of my vocab . . .”

Album: Return of the Product (1992)
Song: Here It Comes
“. . . deploy the truth in black hoods and black boots . . .”
Method Man and Redman
Ah, Method Man from the Wu-Tang Clan (which this blog is obviously a namesake of – WTCANTFW!). Or your can call him Meth. Or Mef. Or Mr. Mef. Or Ghost Rider. Or Iron Lung. Or the Ticallion Stallion. Or Johnny Blaze. Or just Hot Nikkels. Or Hot Niks. Or Shakwon. Or the Panty Raider. Or Johnny Dangerous. Or Blazini. Etc., etc. And his primary homey, Redman. Amazing track from 1995 “The Show” compilation soundtrack:
Album: The Show
Song: How High
“. . . and end your existence, M-E-T, ain’t no use for resistance, H-O-D . . .”
Coming soon: Old school hip-hop sampler. EPMD, BDP, Audio Two, etc., etc.
ODB RIP!

This post reminded me of my trip to Jamaica in 1998 – the one when I met Method Man and Redman. Don’t know why I started thinking about it, but you are so right about how music takes you back to certain moments in life. I am going home to find the photos tonight – wonder if I still have the private phone number
I will email them to you tomorrow. Random post – I know. I miss you!! See you in a few weeks!
Love- Kelly.
